Gutter Cleaning!
You might not think about cleaning your gutters, but it is a very important task for a home owner to perform. Many people do not understand the full consequences of not cleaning your gutters. The gutters on a home are designed to drain water that lands on your roof away from your home. If this water overflows, it usually lands in flower beds near the foundation of your home. Many homes are bearing on clay type soil which expands when it is exposed to water. During the dry season, it contracts. With this continuous expansion and contraction, foundations begin to move and even crack. Many homeowners will notice various cracks inside their home or unlevel doors in their house. This is indication of differential settlement which is amplified by the expansion and contraction of the soil below your foundation. If this damage becomes severe, foundation contractors will recommend helical or stabilizing piers to be installed to support your foundation. Our recommendation is that you clean your gutters on a regular basis and even install gutter extenders to carry water away from your home. A Step in Time technicians are very comfortable on roofs. Cleaning gutters sounds like a simple task but many home owners are injured ever year because they are not comfortable on ladders or walking on steep roofs. Make sure any company you hire has liability and workers compensation insurance. Many companies will say they are licensed and insured but that insurance is not workers compensation insurance which is very expensive and covers accidents which may happen to the technicians cleaning your gutters. If they do not have this insurance, the technician can sue the home owners for medical expenses and lost work. By the way, A Step in Time carries $1,000,000 worth of workers compensation insurance.

Prices for Gutter Cleaning

The prices for gutter cleaning is usually $1.50 - $2.50 per linear foot of gutter. This is to clean the gutters by hand and bag them at the roof. If the roof is steep, the price will be closer to the $2.50 range. The length of gutter includes vertical and horizontial dimensions.

3 story or homes requiring a 40 foot ladder will add $75 to the gutter cleaning price.

Prices include bagging of leaves, usually at the roof. If the roof is extremely steep and can not be walked, there may be an additional charge for extensive ladder work. Our insurance carriers do not allow us to hose out gutters! This is a great way to slip off ladders and break your neck. We typically test gutter spouts by dropping a marble down the downspout. If it makes it to the bottom, it's clear. While our technicians are out there, ask them about dryer vent and chimney cleaning.
